Michael Zaugg working with Emerging Artists Jessie Pierpont

The PCC EAR program distilled a year’s worth of learning into 10 days of rewarding work with an encouraging and kind group of musicians. Michael and Pro Coro made every moment worth it!

Michael Zaugg emphasizes education in his choral work, be it as mentor and coach for conductors looking for professional development, in his position with Pro Coro Canada with the EAR program, or as director of the Choral Art program at the Banff Centre.

Since arriving in Canada, Michael has worked with countless young conductors, composers and singers and helped them develop their craft and creativity.

His first major undertaking was the creation of the Montreal Choral Institute, with the in-house professional ensemble voces boreales.

Michael’s background as teacher combined with his skill and knowledge as choral artist, provide a great environment for any choral leader to find inspiration and challenge. The philosophical ideas of Swiss pedagogue Pestalozzi are central to Michael’s teaching, and his focus on creating a balance of the three natural powers (heart-hand-head) provide a holistic approach to choral leadership.
